In Uyghur, whole numerals from one to ten, the respective
whole numerals at every tenth step in the double digits (i.e. 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90) and large numerals, such as ‘(a) hundred’ (yüz), ‘(a) thousand'(ming), ‘(a) million'(milyon) and ‘(a) thousand million'(milyard), are considered to be simple numerals and are expressed by specific single words. Apart from these, whole numerals are considered to be complex numerals and are produced by adding numerals with fewer digits to numerals with a larger number of digits. For example:
on bir (eleven)
eighty five (seksen besh)
a hundred and five (yüz besh)
or, by numerals with fewer digits multiplying numerals with a larger number of digits For example:
ikki yüz besh ming (two hundred and five thousand)
on üch ming (thirteen thousand)
on yette milyon (seventeen million)
In Uyghur, only simple numerals of three or more digits are multiplied in this way. For example:
ikki yüz (two hundred)
besh ming (five thousand)
töt yüz ming (four hundred thousand)
thirteen million (on üch million)
The original forms (i.e. with respect to meaning and morphological form) of Uyghur simple and complex numerals are considered to be cardinal numerals and, by means of their inflection, varieties of numerals such as the following are formed:
Approximate Numerals (Mölcher San). For example:
onche (around about ten)
minngche (about one thousand)
mingdek (approximately one thousand)
besh-on (five to ten / between five and ten)
on nechche (ten or so)
Ordinal Numbers (tertip san). For example:
birinchi (first)
on ikkinchi (twelfth)
Fractions/Fractional Numerals (Kesir San). For example
töttin bir (a quarter 1/4)
yüzdin yigirme [twenty hundredths (20/100) / nought point two (0.2)]
Distributive Numerals (Teqsim San). For example:
birdin (one each/singly, one at a time)
besh altidin (five or six each/in groups of five or six, in five or six places)
Adverbial Numerals (Rewish San)
minglap (in thousands)
birlep-ikkilep (in ones and twos/in ones or twos)
‘Number of Persons’ Numerals (Kishilik San). For example:
bireylen (some one)
besheylen [(the) five of us/you/them]
un nechcheylen (ten or so of us/you/them)
Pronominal Numerals (Almas San). For example:
ikkimiz [(the) two of us/both of us]
beshinglar [(the) five of you]
töti [(the) four of them]
